Founded in 2012 as Magic Thermodynamic Box, the growth of the company across the globe has seen us need to build a more suitable brand which is why in early 2017 we launched Magic Box International. As a UK manufacturer we innovate and design functional Hot Water renewable energy products and Central Heating energy saving products. As an accredited and award winning company we are passionate about the science of ‘Thermodynamics’ and how this can be maximised in engineering. By embracing the laws of Thermodynamics we innovate, design and manufacture these products in the UK and export them to the global market. The products have been adopted in domestic and commercial properties both retrofit and new build. As they are progressive and innovative we are also now seeing them embraced by the SIPs and Passive House community.
MagmaTech develops thermally insulating fixings designed to remove thermal bridging from insulated buildings. This includes low conductivity basalt fibre wall ties for use in masonry cavity walls; “TeploTie TM”. The ties were used in the breakthrough Denby Dale Passsivhaus project and many other low energy projects across the UK. Fixings have also been used in Passivhaus retrofit / refurb projects. Thermally broken connections between most construction materials are possible. MagmaTech welcomes the opportunity to solve your thermal bridging problems.
Make is a design led chartered building company based in Bristol. Working on creative construction projects; Make will deliver on-time, to budget and with no defects. Bringing experience of major contracting to the domestic market, Make can call upon a skillset that is rare amongst local builders. This enables us to tackle the larger and more complex domestic projects. At Make, we Design, Plan, and then Build. This may take a little longer, but it gives us the time to build relationships and to build quality.
Martin is an independent consultant specialising in energy efficiency in the built environment. He is a Certified Passivhaus Designer and has a background as a Chartered Civil Engineer and Business Consultant. He has an MBA in Strategic Carbon Management from the University of East Anglia, and has increasingly focused on Passivhaus as being a proven means to deliver low energy buildings. Martin advises clients on their projects from concept through to post-occupancy evaluation. He believes it essential that we ensure our buildings deliver for their occupants - in practice not just in theory. Martin has led performance evaluation studies funded by InnovateUK (formerly the Technology Strategy Board) and by ERDF, of domestic new build and refurbishment, as well as non-domestic new build. Studies include ongoing assessment of the award-winning Wimbish Passivhaus development.

MH Architects was formed as Miller Hughes Associates in 1986, rebranding as mh Architects in 2008. We are based in Chichester and work across the south of England. We strive to make architecture that can inspire both inside and out, marrying attractive appearance with straightforward functionality to give our clients buildings that will be enjoyed for years to come. We believe that good design is about achieving the objectives of our clients in the most elegant way possible, using the optimum resources available, in the most economical way. In our view sustainability should be truly integrated in all buildings from conception and the challenge for us is to fuse this with design that genuinely responds to its context and occupants.
Mike Whitfield Construction Ltd is based in South Herefordshire. Mike first worked on a carefully designed energy efficient building in 1996, and since then has been on a steadily improving journey. In 2005 we were main contractors on the conversion of 2 barns into offices for the sustainable architects Architype, a project which won the 2007 RIBA Sustainability Award. By the time PH became known in the UK, we were already using many of the principles, and in 2010 when we started our first project that had been designed using PHPP, it was a natural progression for us. Since then we have worked almost exclusively on retrofits, extensions and new builds to PH principles. Mike has spoken on construction methods and detailing at AECB and UK Passivhaus conferences.
