Our experience includes time spent working on site so we have a practical understanding of construction, which we believe will give you a more thorough and thoughtful solution. We are building a strong commitment to low-energy design, and one of our directors is a certified Passivhaus Designer.

Parsons + Whittley Architects


Parsons & Whittley is an award winning architectural practice based in Swaffham, Norfolk operating across East Anglia. The practice has significant experience in delivering Passivhaus both for private clients and in the affordable housing sector. Driven by the need for sustainable architecture, the need to address fuel poverty and a desire to provide comfortable buildings, Parsons + Whittley have delivered over 40 certified Passivhaus and many more low energy buildings using the same methodology.

Our first project, the Craigrothie certified Passivhaus, was completed in 2011. We are based in Fife, Scotland and are actively involved with the Passivhaus Trust Scotland Group.

PHH supply a complete construction solution, PH15, for Passivhaus housing projects. PH15 covers the three essential Passivhaus elements, the thermal shell + triple-glazed windows + MVHR system. PH15 has been optimised to minimise thermal bridges, to deliver excellent airtightness, to effectively manage any overheating risk, & to keep the uplift in costs to a minimum. PH15 makes use of off-site construction methods, alongside use of natural materials that sequester carbon. We are a team developers looking to assist in the greater goals of providing a more resilient form of living. On that we have just set up a new company called “Passivhaus Living Ltd”. We have sat with our Architects and produced what we believe are quality homes that we would want to live in, being of a Passivhaus standard. The aspiration is to provide schemes that deliver the building blocks of great communities.


Paul Heat Recovery Scotland


Being actively involved at the start of Passivhaus in Scotland from 2010, we have focused on its specialised ventilation technology, partnering with PAUL, one of the first and foremost German MVHR manufacturers. As such, the University of Strathclyde invited us to provide practical training in MVHR for the CEPH course. Our no-compromise approach in terms of equipment, ducting and installation, with emphasis on customer service and sound advice has lead us into a different direction than most competitors. Foreseeing the future of demand controlled ventilation, we have recently added Cascade Ventilation Systems with minimal ductwork for smaller dwellings

In pursuit of these specialist abilities, Paul McAlister he is now the first Architect in Northern Ireland to become a ‘Certified European Passive House Designer’. The team continues to invest in training and research in order to provide bespoke services to both the private and public sectors clients. Paul McAlister Architects have now completed one of the first passive houses in Northern Ireland.

Pen y Coed Insulation are the specialists in Warmcel insulation and the pro clima airtightness system. Our teams have 15 years of experience of installing Warmcel in all types of timber frame buildings from traditional oak framing to I beam technology, extensions, social housing, to factories and schools. Pen y Coed Insulation can offer you technical and construction advice on all aspects of Warmcel insulation and airtightness solutions. Warmcel is cellulose fibre insulation made from recycled newspapers for use in timber frame walls, floors and roofs. Cellulose fibre is manufactured by milling newspapers which are then treated with inorganic salts to protect against burning and pest damage. Warmcel is installed by injection under pressure filling stud walls and roofs completely leaving no gaps or voids so the maximum insulation levels are achieved for the most cost effective sustainable insulation. Pen y Coed Insulation have been working on the latest Passivhaus projects using Warmcel and the pro clima air tightness system getting some of the best airtightness test results attained in the country. Our airtightness testing technicians can give you advice at the start of your project through to testing and certification for your airtightness test result.

Phi is a group of architects and designers, certified in Passivhaus Design, founded by Claire Jamieson and Sara Darwin. Phi reflects their design philosophy with Ëœsmart" architecture, sustainable and environmentally responsible design, combined with the application of Phi, the golden section, to create beautiful proportions in design. Phi is committed to cost efficient design and construction culminating in highly energy efficient solutions. Phi is an international partnership with Northern and Southern hemisphere representation, sharing knowledge for best practice details, construction and Passivhaus modelling (using the PHPP software) Claire and Sara studied Architecture & Environmental Design together at Nottingham University. Subsequently qualifying as British Architects, registered with the ARB, they have practised architecture in the UK for the last 20 years. Sharing an enthusiasm for modern residential design with sustainable solutions, they are qualified as Certified Passivhaus Designers through the Building Research Establishment Passivhaus Designer Course. Claire Jamieson is based in Yorkshire, UK/ Australia and Sara Darwin in Manchester, UK


Piers Sadler Consulting


Piers Sadler is a Certified Passivhaus Designer and Consultant based in Bristol but working in all parts of the UK. Piers works on both domestic and non-domestic Passivhaus projects, with project experience including a range of private houses, a 26 unit Passivhaus scheme in Bristol, the proposed Carmarthen archive repository and offices and Gorslas Primary School in Carmarthenshire. Piers collaborates with architects, engineers, contractors and Passivhaus Certifiers through the project life cycle. Piers advises on the building fabric, construction, airtightness, thermal bridging, windows and doors, ventilation, heating and domestic hot water systems and undertakes PHPP modelling to develop and optimise Passivhaus design. Piers is also experienced in low energy building refurbishment, not necessarily to the Passivhaus standard.

Poulter Architects is an RIBA Chartered Practice based in Stockport, Greater Manchester. We are committed to designing modern, sustainable and low carbon buildings of lasting quality. Our expertise is in housing, ranging from the renovation of existing dwellings, to individual houses, as well as housing schemes. As a certified Passive House Designer, Jeremy Poulter is able supplement the architectural design, by applying Passive House principals and detailed design analysis at every project stage, from inception to completion. We would welcome any enquires for EnerPHit or Passive House dwellings, across the North West, as well as Staffordshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire.

Prewett Bizley architects have developed a deep interest in developing into low carbon consuming buildings, either new or existing.
