Bere:architects is one of the UK’s foremost Passivhaus practices and pioneers of ecological and environmental design. Founded by Justin Bere, the practice has won numerous design and sustainability awards and completed the first certified Passivhaus non-domestic retrofit in the UK, London’s first Passivhaus and two low cost, social housing, certified Passivhaus homes in south Wales. Julian is a chartered building services engineer and Fellow of CIBSE with a specialism in sustainable/environmental building design, client design advice and low carbon master planning. He has 27 years of experience. Projects include the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, Tower Place in London, the Parkview Battersea Power Station scheme. He has recently completed his own certified Passivhaus in Hampshire and is a regular judge for the Construction News Awards and the RIBA sustainable building award. David is a freelance architectural consultant and researcher based in London. He studied architecture at Centre for Alternative Technology and is a Certified Passivhaus Consultant. He collaborated with Good Architecture on the 2012 BRE UK Passivhaus Competition (awarded runner-up) and has been a guest tutor at UCL and UEL in London. David is developer of "designPH" for the Passive House Institute; a plugin for Trimble SketchUp that will provide a 3D visual interface to PHPP. Mark Siddall is principal at LEAP: Low Energy Architectural Practice, is a practicing architect that has a keen interest building performance. Issues of usability and practicality inform his approach and have increasingly led to an appreciation of the need for an integrated, consensus based, design process. He was project architect, and Passivhaus Designer, for 25 award winning, Passivhaus Certified dwellings at the Racecourse Estate, Houghton-le-Spring. He was also project architect on a number of award winning Retrofit for the Future projects that targeted an 80% reduction in carbon emissions. Martin is an independent consultant specialising in energy efficiency in the built environment. He is a Certified Passivhaus Designer and has a background as a Chartered Civil Engineer and Business Consultant. He has an MBA in Strategic Carbon Management from the University of East Anglia, and has increasingly focused on Passivhaus as being a proven means to deliver low energy buildings. Martin advises clients on their projects from concept through to post-occupancy evaluation. He believes it essential that we ensure our buildings deliver for their occupants - in practice not just in theory. Martin has led performance evaluation studies funded by InnovateUK (formerly the Technology Strategy Board) and by ERDF, of domestic new build and refurbishment, as well as non-domestic new build. Piers Sadler is Director and owner of Piers Sadler Consulting and is a building scientist, building energy consultant and Certified Passivhaus Designer based in Bristol. He is passionate about improving building performance through better design, construction and operation, taking a fabric first approach wherever possible. He enjoys collaborating with architects and engineers and a range of associates to develop low energy building and services designs for residential new build and refurbishment and specialist and small commercial/industrial buildings. Passivhaus design principles together with sound building science inform all his work. Piers is currently working on two Passivhaus projects and uses PHPP as a design tool to test ideas and inform cost benefit assessments across a range of other schemes. Richard Maxton has been designing homes, house extensions and award winning commercial developments for nearly thirty years. During this period Richard has worked all over Scotland and has an enviable reputation for securing Planning Consents for difficult sites. As a Certified PassivHaus Designer Richard has the skills to design low energy homes to the PassivHaus Standard. A Chartered Technologist, Richard takes great care to accurately establish a definitive Client Brief at the outset to ensure the Client ‘dream’ is realised. Junko Suetake is a Japanese architect and certified Passivhaus designer. Her design is characterized by a considered approach to comfort, climate and landscape, using locally made materials where possible. The aim is to create sustainable development, which meets user’s needs, without compromising design quality.
