Bere:architects is one of the UK’s foremost Passivhaus practices and pioneers of ecological and environmental design. Founded by Justin Bere, the practice has won numerous design and sustainability awards and completed the first certified Passivhaus non-domestic retrofit in the UK, London’s first Passivhaus and two low cost, social housing, certified Passivhaus homes in south Wales. In 2012 bere:architects won the BRE’s competition to build Passivhaus housing on their Watford Innovation Park, is working on several new builds and retrofits to Passivhaus standard and is peer reviewing a new low energy library at UEL. Research through UK Government funded Technology Strategy Board monitoring and independent cost analysis work, and the sharing of these findings through presentations and publications, is a vital and integral part of bere:architects’ work.

Based in East Lothian and working throughout Scotland and the North East, Brennan & Wilson Architects specialise in both rural and urban sustainable design of housing, commercial, community and arts projects. John Brennan and Julie Wilson met whilst working at Gaia Architects, and later formed Brennan & Wilson Architects in 2002. Julie Wilson is a European Certified Passive House Designer. Catriona is an architect based in the Scottish Highlands. She works for a Design & Build company in Inverness focused on the use of homegrown timber and off-site construction to produce healthy and extremely energy-efficient homes. David is a freelance architectural consultant and researcher based in London. He studied architecture at Centre for Alternative Technology and is a Certified Passivhaus Consultant. He has experience in architectural practice across a number of sectors and provides consultancy in energy modelling using PHPP and thermal bridge analysis. He collaborated with Good Architecture on the 2012 BRE UK Passivhaus Competition (awarded runner-up) and has been a guest tutor at UCL and UEL in London. David is developer of "designPH" for the Passive House Institute; a plugin for Trimble SketchUp that will provide a 3D visual interface to PHPP. Diane Hubbard of Green Footsteps is no ordinary air tightness tester. Mark Siddall is principal at LEAP: Low Energy Architectural Practice, is a practicing architect that has a keen interest building performance. Issues of usability and practicality inform his approach and have increasingly led to an appreciation of the need for an integrated, consensus based, design process. He was project architect, and Passivhaus Designer, for 25 award winning, Passivhaus Certified dwellings at the Racecourse Estate, Houghton-le-Spring. He was also project architect on a number of award winning Retrofit for the Future projects that targeted an 80% reduction in carbon emissions. Martin is an independent consultant specialising in energy efficiency in the built environment. He is a Certified Passivhaus Designer and has a background as a Chartered Civil Engineer and Business Consultant. He has an MBA in Strategic Carbon Management from the University of East Anglia, and has increasingly focused on Passivhaus as being a proven means to deliver low energy buildings. Martin advises clients on their projects from concept through to post-occupancy evaluation. He believes it essential that we ensure our buildings deliver for their occupants - in practice not just in theory. Piers Sadler is a Certified Passivhaus Designer and Consultant based in Bristol but working in all parts of the UK. Piers advises on the building fabric, construction, airtightness, thermal bridging, windows and doors, ventilation, heating and domestic hot water systems and undertakes PHPP modelling to develop and optimise Passivhaus design. Piers is also experienced in low energy building refurbishment, not necessarily to the Passivhaus standard.

Her design is characterized by a considered approach to comfort, climate and landscape, using locally made materials where possible. The aim is to create sustainable development, which meets user’s needs, without compromising design quality. She has produced innovative and award-winning spaces for various happy clients in the UK and Japan and believes in the efficacy of collaboration and sharing knowledge with others such as the PHT. The last 6 years have been dedicated to sustainable housing, school projects, and a low energy straw bale community building produced by Anne Thorne Architects.
