In this informative webinar, architects Jarek and Claire from Smith Scott Mullan Associates will present an account of their practice’s transformative journey. They will discuss the progression from a traditional architectural practice to one capable of successfully working on multiple Passivhaus projects. Jarek and Claire will share valuable insights, reflecting on the challenges and opportunities encountered during this evolution, including new relationships, processes, and documents. This webinar offers a unique opportunity for attendees to learn from the experiences of Smith Scott Mullan Associates and gain actionable knowledge to help transition to Passivhaus methodology as a “new normal” whilst avoiding the risks associated with uncertainty.

About the Speakers

Smith Scott Mullan Associates is an Edinburgh-based architectural firm specializing in residential architecture, sustainability, and conservation. Their team includes certified Passivhaus designers, PAS2035 coordinators, Conservation Architects, an urban planner, and an RIAS Sustainability accredited architect. They prioritise science-based, human-centric architecture and aim to lead the industry in sustainable design.

Jarek Gasiorek, an Architect and certified Passivhaus Designer at Edinburgh's Smith Scott Mullan Associates, champions sustainable design. Leading teams in diverse projects, he focuses on conservation, retrofit, and new builds, emphasizing Passivhaus and low embodied carbon solutions. A driving force behind Smith Scott Mullan's transition to sustainable design, Jarek enhances industry capabilities through training, consultancy, and influence, while also serving as an AECB Trustee.

Claire Cockburn, a certified Passivhaus Designer and Senior Architect at Smith Scott Mullan Associates, plays a vital role in the company's sustainable design efforts, particularly in conservation and Passivhaus methods. She served as the Project Architect for the Burnbrae Road and Buccleuch Street Passivhaus projects for Midlothian Council, which marked the start of her Passivhaus journey and ultimately helped her manage the projects from start to finish.
