Passivhaus or Perverse house

Date: 27th February 2013 Time: All day
Location: PTEa Diespeker Wharf, 38 Graham Street, London N1 8JX Cost: £99 for non-members, 10% discount for PHT members

This one day seminar  organised by The Green Register takes a good hard look at Passivhaus standards and assesses them against other more commonly used standards such as SAP, Part L of the Building Regulations and the Code for Sustainable Homes. Using a range of up-to-date case studies - both residential and non-residential - speakers will demonstrate that the Passivhaus standard can produce some exemplar buildings whilst Part L and SAP can have some less desirable outcomes.

The first speaker Mark Saich (building control professional and director of Green Building Solutions) will give a concise and critical review of passivhaus, SAP and Part L, highlighting the pros and cons and how they can deal with wider environmental issues. Presentations follow from James Anwyl of Eurobuild, Paul Gannaway of Betteridge and Milsom (quantity surveyors) and Richard Hawkes (Hawkes Architecture - Crossway featured on Grand Designs) who all share their experiences of building to passivhaus standards. The speakers will explain where they have employed other standards and how some of the outcomes are not necessarily what was expected.

Mark finishes up the day with an overview of the EnerPHit standard, used for retrofitting building to best practice energy efficiency standards.Be prepared to learn a lot, enjoy some healthy debate and come away armed with a clear view of how all the energy and environmental building standards measure up against each other.
