How is timber used in the construction of Passivhaus and low carbon buildings? What are the timber types, treatments and processes used to deliver this effective and efficient building material? This seminar organised by Adapt Centre for the Built Environment will explore these quesations and others.
Kier (Norwich event only) will present on the application of cross laminated timber in Passivhaus and low carbon buildings, focusing on the case studies of Norwich Open Academy, UEA Building 57 (including CLT being used with TermoDeck for the first time) and local Norwich schools.
Smith and Wallwork Engineers will present on the application of modern engineered timber - a viable alternative to steel and concrete frames in larger scale buildings; focusing on the design and use of modified wood. To include the case study of the New University Building Cambridge
Dr Ed Suttie (BRE Director of Timber) will provide an overview of BRE timber services. To include research, testing and consultancy capabilities for timber, wood-based products and composites; focusing on some of the specific areas of research undertaken by BRE such as bio-resins for re-engineered UK wood products and high performance, sustainable coated UK timber for exterior applications.
