Passivhaus Events at Ecobuild 2014

Passivhaus seems to be trickling into the main stream at this year’s Ecobuild with a strong presence in design seminars, involvement with an open film competition and numerous members exhibiting. Sifting through the vast array of events occuring during the 3 day event, the Trust highlight some sessions:

 

Launch of UK Passivhaus Awards 2014

Please join us to celebrate the official launch of the UK Passivhaus Awards 2014 and drinks reception at 16.30 on Wednesday 5th March. Hosted by Advantage Austria at stand S510/11.

 

Design Zone

Passivhaus design: how to scale up and maintain quality

Tuesday 04 March, 14.30 - 16.00.

Passivhaus at scale is still very new. This session will examine how to scale up Passivhaus design to multi-unit projects, whilst maintaining the quality, with current examples of larger-scale projects.

Tried & tested: refining Passivhaus design through feedback

Wednesday 05 March, 12.30 - 14.00

Covering retrofit and newbuild, this session looks at the detail on how to design for quality and comfort in Passivhaus buildings. Case studies show performance information from a variety of Passivhaus buildings in use.

The details of Passivhaus: strategies for success

Thursday 06 March, 14.15 - 15.45

Passivhaus design is a certified standard, which by its very nature demands that the finer grain of the design needs to be right in order that the building works. In this session, speakers will examine strategies for making Passivhaus work; getting the system design right; and ensuring quality throughout.

How building to Passivhaus principles can provide a high level of occupant thermal comfort while using minimal energy for heating and cooling. Discussion on the Trust's Passivhaus Masterclasses, focused on the meticulous details needed in Passivhaus buildings.

Saint-Gobain Technical Manager, Mark Allen, will introduce the Multi-Comfort concept. Building on the exacting Passivhaus standards. Joining Mark will be Julian Elsbury, National Housebuilder Manager for Pasquill, who will be looking specifically at the advantages of using metal web joists in the design and construction of Multi-Comfort buildings.

Bringing design and operational performance together in new homes will discuss Passivhaus at Building performance and BIM seminars.

The Zero Carbon Hub is running a collaborative industry led programme examining the discrepancy between design and as built energy performance for new homes. This session will examine the latest findings and evidence from this research; highlight issues that influence the performance gap; explore ways to reduce the performance gap with reference to what can be learnt from rigorous quality assurance processes such as those offered by Passivhaus certification.

 

Refurbishment and Retrofit

Delivering retrofit at scale

Meeting our 2050 carbon reduction targets means improving 20 million existing homes. Retrofitting at scale offers an opportunity to address the enormity of this challenge. This seminar explores what can be achieved at scale including the process, delivery and varying approaches to different retrofit challenges.

Regeneration Film Festival

The Trust is also involved with Regeneration Film Festival 2014, an open-entry filmmaking competition for all those involved with the design, use and development of a sustainable built environment.

 

PHT Member Exhibitors:
