Certified European Passive House Designer Training (BRE)

A Certified European Passivhaus Designer Course will be held on the 20-24 April and 11-14 May 2015 at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. The course is being delivered by the Energy Systems Research Unit, University of Strathclyde, the Building Research Establishment Centre of Excellence in Energy Utilisation. 

Passivhaus is an advanced design scheme that provides a robust solution for low energy, high comfort buildings.

This intensive and practical eight days training course is aimed at architects and other design professionals who have experience with energy efficient design, and wish to expand their portfolio. 

The course concludes with an exam on 29 May 2015, and successful candidates are able to register with the Passivhaus Institute as a Certified Passivhaus Designer, (

The course includes 80 detailed topics covering:

  • The heat-insulating building shell
  • Construction heat bridges
  • Passive House windows
  • Air-tightness and Blower Door Test (workshop)
  • Thermography (workshop)
  • Ventilation
  • Summer comfort
  • Utilisation of residual heat
  • Quality Assurance of heating and ventilation
  • Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) with a range of buildings and your own project
  • Non-residential Passive House
  • Profitability and Loan program calculations
  • Tendering and awarding contracts
  • Construction Supervision and Quality Assurance
  • Customer support.
