Membership of the Passivhaus Trust is open to anyone and does not necessarily imply achievement of the Passivhaus standard for buildings or components, or attainment of Passivhaus-related qualifications. Members of the Passivhaus Trust listed include architects, consultants, contractors, manufacturers and other industry professionals, as well as individuals, who support the work of the Trust in promoting the Standard in the UK.

Baker Ruff Hannon was established in 1979 and provides project management, cost management and associated services. The majority of our projects are in social housing and we work with a number of organisations throughout the South West in this regard. We are currently engaged in a small Passivhaus scheme with one of our Clients and we are trying to encourage other providers to adopt the criteria to achieve environmental and economic benefits for their tenants. Our Partners have been engaged in the development of a Passivhaus swimming pool in the United Kingdom, which is a new if not unique concept.

Simplifying Passivhaus: Beattie Passive have developed an award winning, innovative offsite timber frame build technology that guarantees the performance of Passivhaus, delivering energy efficient homes in any design, shape or style. The complete build system (walls, roof and ground floor) is certified by the Passivhaus Institute and patented in 68 countries. The offsite timber frame system is designed and manufactured in the UK and provides a continuous insulation layer around the core of a timber framed structure. This greatly simplifies the delivery of Passivhaus, providing performance and quality certainty delivering high quality, energy efficient and healthy homes for all. We work with Self-builders, Housing Associations, Developers and Architects to offer a simple, fast, efficient construction solution for Passivhaus.

BecoWallform is the recognised British name for the isorast building system, the original building system to be approved by the Passivhaus Institut in Germany. A practical method of construction, detailed and approved to Passivhaus standards, the system has been proven in service for over twenty years. Bere:architects, founded by Justin Bere, is one of the UK’s foremost Passivhaus practices with strong emphasis on design quality and R+D, and winner of numerous design and sustainability awards. B:A produced London’s first Passivhaus home, UK’s first Passivhaus Social Housing, UK’s first Passivhaus CSH level 6 home, UK’s first Passivhaus non-domestic retrofit, and has recently set a new benchmark for performance - the UK’s first Passivhaus Plus proven by two years of monitoring. B:A won both of the International BRE Passivhaus competitions (2009, Ebbw Vale & 2012 Watford). The practice has carried out a substantial amount of R+D work which is freely available on their website. Justin was invited to write the RIBA’s ‘Introduction to Passive House’ and co-organised the UK’s first annual Passivhaus Conferences in Camden Town Hall & UEL (2010) and Islington Town Hall (2011), increasing Passivhaus uptake and understanding among architects, students, public and politicians.

Beyond Carbon are Passivhaus designers and consultants for large-scale buildings, sites and masterplans. We engineer an excellent, beyond-zero-carbon built environment using the Passivhaus Standard as a key tool. Allied to this, we use whole-life-carbon tools to calculate, minimise and optimise total carbon, including the carbon emissions embodied in construction. We encourage our clients to consider low energy retrofit where possible, and also engage in Passivhaus design on new construction projects where retrofit isn’t viable.

John Brennan and Julie Wilson met whilst working at Gaia Architects, and later formed Brennan & Wilson Architects in 2002. Julie Wilson is a European Certified Passive House Designer. The practice have completed their first project to passivhaus standards are currently carrying out post occupancy evaluation with Edinburgh University. John Brennan combines practice with academic education, and is programme Director for the MSc in Advanced Sustainable Design at Edinburgh University.

I have been a member of the AECB for a number of years and was one of the second group to undertake the AECB CarbonLite Retrofit course in the UK. Currently we are renovating a 15th Century mud hut (Cob/adobe & rubble stone) with later additions to Passivhaus standards, while adding an 80m² single storey extension. We also received planning for a second project for a new build house designed to Passivhaus standards by Gale & Snowden in Exeter using ICF as the build method. I am passionate about Passivhaus retrofit, especially with regards to cost effective retrofit solutions & building methods.
