2023 reflections & what to watch in 2024!

To celebrate the Passivhaus Trusts 13^th year and the growing number of fantastic Passivhaus projects, we welcomed over 200 attendees to the hybrid UK Passivhaus Awards 2023 on the 5th of July at the Museum of London.

Congratulations to all the 2023 Passivhaus Award Ceremony winners and a huge thank you & congratulations to ALL the shortlisted project teams.  From bill-busting health centres to bio-based self-builds, the 2023 Passivhaus Awards proved Passivhaus can apply to any typology and open data-driven design dialogues.

2023 was jammed packed with many fantastic online Passivhaus events!  Our ‘How to build a Passivhaus’ series was particularly inspiring and covered the essential topics that are key to successfully delivering a Passivhaus project.  The series also introduced our newly updated ‘How to Build a Passivhaus: Good Practice Guide’.

With so many Councils gearing up to provide more social housing, our Passivhaus Social Housing series discussed how Passivhaus offers a whole-house approach and was a perfect companion to our Passivhaus Benefits Guide.  The series continues in 2024 so why not sign up now and discover why so many local councils are adopting Passivhaus.

In October, the Trust travelled up to University of Edinburgh for our biggest UK Passivhaus Conference to date!  ‘Scotland leads the way’ was the theme and over 600 delegates joined us (in-person & online) to celebrate all that Scotland is doing to deliver buildings to the Passivhaus (or equivalent) standard.  A keynote speech from Scottish Government Minister Patrick Harvie, school masterclasses, and Passivhaus site tours were among the highlights of the two-day event.

As always, the sense of community and shared purpose was inspiring.  Thank you to all our conference sponsors, speakers, site tour participants, & delegates. We look forward to doing it all again this September - watch this space!

We managed to sneak in a cheeky Passivhaus Retrofit Masterclass at the end of 2023, but don’t worry if you missed out.  You can learn more about the challenges around moisture risk in retrofit projects in our new technical guidance ‘Moisture and EnerPHit’ 

2024 started with an even bigger technical bang when we introduced our Large + Complex Masterclass Series in January.  With new in-depth case studies and topic-focused sessions, the series will enrich your practical and technical knowledge for your large-scale Passivhaus projects!  Join us in February for the next session ‘Air tightness & air testing of large multi-residential blocks’

The team may still be on a high from our Scotland success, but in 2024 our UK Passivhaus Conference heads off to Oxford!  With so many new and certified Passivhaus projects taking place in the Oxford-Cambridge corridor it’s the perfect place come together and explore the practical aspects of Passivhaus, with discussions on standards, tools, certification, quality assurance, and expanding the Passivhaus supply chain.
