Ecology Building Society's C-Change sustainable homes discounts now extend to Passivhaus

Ecology Building Society have announced that their C-Change sustainable homes discounts have been revised to include the Passivhaus family of standards. The scheme offers interest rate discounts of up to 1.25% on mortgages for homes that meet recognised energy standards.

The Passivhaus discounts also include the EnerPHit standard, which has been developed for eco refurbishments that use Passivhaus principles, but where the existing architecture or conservation issues mean that meeting the full Passivhaus standard isn’t feasible.

The Society has also increased its maximum loan-to-value on residential and shared ownership properties to 90%, to enable it to support more people to build, buy or renovate sustainably.

As a patron member of the Passivhaus Trust, Ecology Building Society are committed to supporting and promoting the growing number of Passivhaus buildings in the UK, and Chief Executive, Paul Ellis, is also a member of the Board of the Trust. Their unique mortgage discounts reflects the important role that Passivhaus now plays in the sustainable building sector.

Chris Herring, Chair of the Passivhaus Trust, commented: "We congratulate Ecology Building Society for this forward-thinking and progressive step. By giving buildings built to Passivhaus and EnerPHit standards their highest level of mortgage discount, they will help support the development of genuine low energy construction in the UK".

The Independent recently ran an article titled 'Passivhaus: the home that can cut your heating bills by 90%' which looks at how Andy and Lorna Simmonds refurbished Grove cottage to the EnerPHit standard with the help of the discounted residential mortgage with the Ecology Building Society, and significantly slashed their energy bills.
