PUBLIC CONSULTATION: Submitting a number of options result in gaining feedback from the local community and planners. This gave insight into what people liked and certain aspects that were problematic. Achieving Passivhaus certification was fundamental to the project. Alex was able to explain the ecological principles to the locals who were very supportive of the concept, and worked to fit them into the design. The final design was a culmination of this consultation process.
The ICF will be used for the floor and shell of the building to provide something that has longevity and will last for hundreds of years.

AIRTIGHTNESS: The airtightness is kept simple by utilising an Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF) system, leaving only the window details to be of concern when at construction. The ICF will be used for the floor and shell of the building to provide something that has longevity and will last for hundreds of years. Internal clear spans ensure that any future generations living in the property can adapt the space to their needs.
