2015 UK Passivhaus Open Days attracts self builders
The UK Passivhaus Open Days took place from 13-15 November 2015. 32 projects across the nation opened their doors to share their Passivhaus trials and tribulations, and offer visitors a chance to experience Passivhaus first hand. Over 600 projects took part globally in the 12th International Passivhaus Open Days.

People are always very appreciative and often go away saying they've learned a lot. They genuinely appreciate being able to experience being in a passivhaus. I think they are genuinely surprised by how warm and comfortable they are to be in.

Curious and engaged crowds
One of the highlights of participating with a project for the event is the interaction with curious and engaged crowds. This year seemed to attract many self builders and architects, along with construction professionals and intrigued locals. Will this translate to a rise in self build Passivhaus schemes?
Some common questions that arose from the event:
- What are the pros and cons of going for Passivhaus certification?
- Will Passivhaus add value to the property?
- What is the build cost, and is it more than a 'conventional' build?
- Where do you find contractors to build to this standard?
- How much are your annual heating bills?

We enjoyed the genuine interest by all visitors, with always very clever, interesting questions. It seems the word is slowly spreading and people think more and more about Passivhaus.

If you can open your Passivhaus projects for tours on other days during the year the Trust run an OpenHaus Series with the aim of accessing exceptional projects throughout the year. If you would like to register your interest to participate please contact info@passivhaustrust.org.uk with the subject heading OpenHaus.
Thank you!
The Trust would like to thank all the particpating project hosts for their enthusiasm and passion for Passivhaus which made the Open Days such a success and may have inspired others to embark on their own Passivhaus projects. And thanks to all the visitors who may have braved any of the bad weather over the Open Days weekend.
If you missed the event you can learn more about each project here, and be sure to put the 2016 event in your diary for next November. See you there!
