Certified Component Database
Whether you need something in particular, or are just browsing, the Passivhaus Institute’s (PHI) new component database, makes searching for certified products a great starting point.
It is often difficult for the designer to assess the energy-efficiency, durability and the necessary energy parameters of a component as the available standard parameters are frequently unrealistic or are not accurate enough; reliable project planning using manufacturers’ information alone is often not possible.
Products that carry the Certified Passivhaus Component seal have been independantly tested according to uniform criteria; they are comparable in terms of their specific values, and are of excellent quality regarding energy efficiency. Their use facilitates the designer’s task and contributes significantly to ensuring the faultless functioning of the resultant Passivhaus. Over 600 highly energy-efficient products can be found in the PHI online database.
The interactive house illustration makes components easy to find, which are categorised into:
- Opaque building envelope
- Transparent building envelope
- Building Services
When considering the life cycle costs, Certified Passive House Components are almost always the best choice, both for new builds and for retrofits. The quality-proofed products provide reliably high energy savings – and with the new database, planners and building owners can easily gain an overview of the existing possibilities.

The database will be presented at the International Passivhaus Conference later this month.
