The Passivhaus Trust is to be commended for disseminating best practice through its rigorous and informative awards programme. Having judged the awards since their inception 7 years ago, it is a pleasure to see this year's winners break away from the boxy compact forms that so often characterise Passivhaus.
This is particularly true in the small projects category where several entries achieve elegant solutions on constrained sites through intelligent and imaginative use of passIve design. The finalists in the large residential category demonstrates that this approach can be applied at scale, even in the hands of designers engaging with Passivhaus for the first time.
Hattie Hartman, The Architect's Journal
Each year the range and scale of projects increases. Whilst various legislative aspirations for sustainable building standards have come and gone we see the growth of a solid core of Passivhaus buildings that really perform. This year the entries include numerous examples of Passivhaus offices, hostels, research centres, schools and homes ranging from bespoke luxury developments to estates of homes that are only identifiable as Passivhaus by the discrete label.
Nick Grant, Elemental Solutions
This year we saw a range of projects that are breaking Passivhaus stereotypes whilst striving to capture the elusive balance between architectural delight and robust building performance.
Yogini Patel, Passivhaus Trust
Winners will be chosen by PHT members and attendees of the Awards Ceremony, which is taking place at London Build on the 24th October. An exhibition of all shortlisted projects will be on display, and finalists will present their schemes to the audience vying for votes. This is the first time that this event is free to attend, so join us for an interesting and exciting afternoon.
NB: PHT members who are unable to attend the awards ceremony will be able to vote online.
