The Passivhaus standard is more than the sum of its parts. In order to avoid making mistakes, it is necessary to have a good knowledge of the interactions and interdependences of the components required in the construction of a Passive House. Modifications and variations in specific planning in terms of energy efficiency should be assessable. These may have a significant impact on the proper functioning of the building.
The aim of further training for the ”Certified Passive House Tradesperson” certificate is to convey an overall impression of the interdisciplinary Passive House concept to tradesmen involved in construction within the appropriate time. This Certified Passivhaus Tradesperson course comprises of 6 interdisciplinary modules and 2 modules which are oriented towards specific skilled trades (thermal insulation/window installation and heat supply/ventilation).
After successful completion of the examination the participant will be awarded the ”Certified Passivhaus Tradesman” certificate and will be included in the list of “Certified Passivhause Tradesman”.
Certified Passivhaus tradesmen substantiate their sound basic knowledge of the construction of Passivhaus by passing an examination. After five years, they must provide evidence that they have maintained and advanced their existing knowledge by documenting their participation in a model Passive House project. Because knowledge is always personal in nature, only single individuals can be certified.
2 seperate exams are offered for building envelope specialists and building services specialists.

Certificate of attendance and completion
Course participants will be given the option to sit the exam for international accreditation as “Certified Passive House Tradesman”. The fee for this is £175 which covers exam marking & 5 year certification from the Passivhaus Institute. Upon successful passing “Building Envelope Specialist” will be stated on the certification and your details published on the International Passivhaus Institut’s Trades website.
