How to Design & Build low impact buildings
Date: 28 September 2022 | Time: 17:30 - 18:30 |
Location: Newcastle & Online | Cost: Free to attend, booking essential |
Using the award-winning Shepherd's Barn as a case study, architect and PHT member Mark Siddall of LEAP will introduce the RIBA 2030 Challenge.
During the presentation you will discover the strategies and tactics used to address energy in-use, up-front and lifecycle carbon emissions, and how thoughtful on-site management meant zero waste was sent to landfill and only two vans of material went for recycling.
In addition to being the North East's first dwelling to satisfy the RIBA 2030 Challenge, it is the region's first Passivhaus EnerPHit Plus. Furthermore, by reducing energy in-use and generating renewable power, the project achieves ‘Zero Carbon’ status, according to SAP (the Standard Assessment Procedure). It was on this footing that the project recently won four RIBA North East awards, including the top accolade of best building, and the North East Regional LABC Award 2021 for best conversion to create a single new home.
