IHDC 2012 Conference • Ecosystem Services Come to Town

Adapting to Climate Change by Working with Nature

"We the mayors and governors of the world’s leading cities… ask you to recognize that the future of our globe will be won or lost in the cities of the world.” - Copenhagen Climate Change communiqué, December 2009

Our towns and cities face numerous complex challenges - overheating, surface water management, air and water pollution, loss of biodiversity and green space. The IHDC 2012 Conference on 15th October discusses ways and means to work with nature and integrate an ecosystem services approach to the design of the built environment.

See conference programme here.

IHDC 2012 Evening Awards Ceremony • The Darwin Centre

The Awards ceremony is included in the conference fee. Lord Taylor of Holbeach, representing IHDC 2012 Gold Sponsors the Green Infrastructure Partnership (supported by Defra and DCLG) and Dr Bob Bloomfield of the Natural History Museum will be amongst those awarding prizes to this year's winners and finalists of the Integrated Habitats Design Competition. Brian McDonald of Natural England will be presenting comments from the IHDC Judges on this year's entries and discussing current work on applying an ecosystem services approach to development and adaptation.

The IHDC 2012 Exhibition will display the work of successful entrants working with nature and natural systems in the built environment, to support biodiversity and biodiverse habitats to provide ecosystem services and healthier, more resilient communities.

The exhibition will be open to all conference participants and Awards Ceremony guests invited to this gala event, and is open to the public in the Darwin Centre from 8th-19th October 2012.
