Date: 12th December 2012 | Time: 15:00 - 19:00 |
Location: Thomas Paine Building, University of East Anglia, Norwich | Cost: Free to Eligible SMEs |
This tour organised by Adapt CBE will give an overview of the UEA’s low carbon campus including a visit of the UEA Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Plant, Thomas Paine Study Centre and Elizabeth Fry Buildings followed by a chance to network over mince pies and mulled wine.
This seminar and tour will provide a unique insight into the UEA low carbon buildings and facilities, this will include:
An overview and tour of the Elizabeth Fry and Thomas Paine buildings:Innovative buildings using the Swedish Termodeck system, combining very high energy efficiency with excellent internal air quality at little or no extra financial cost.
An overview and tour of the UEA Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Plant: The UEA adapted its large 1960s district heating infrastructure in 1998 with the installation of three 1.0 megawatt electrical output, natural gas fired, combined heat & power ( CHP) units. Providing over 4 megawatt of heat energy, this CHP plant is one of the most efficient in the country supplying over 60% of UEA’s energy needs.
An overview of the new teaching building (Building 57): This building will be of Termodeck design constructed with cross laminated timber (the first time that this construction method has been used with Termodeck). It will be built using Passivhaus techniques and comply with BREEAM excellent certification.
An overview of the Exemplar Low Carbon Building: The latest UEA building is targeting Passivhaus Certification and BREEAM Outstanding using local renewable materials to achieve a carbon sink for the lifetime of the building.
