Low Carbon 4 Real plus Feedback and Monitoring: Closing the performance gap

Date: 14th April 2011 Time:
Location: UCL, London Cost: £180+VAT for non-members, £100+VAT for Passivhaus Trust members

Background

Fabric testing has repeatedly revealed a significant thermal performance gap between “designed” and “as-built” housing. Therefore, proving performance and closing this performance gap, are clearly essential strategies. Ongoing monitoring and post occupancy evaluation (POE) are also essential tools to ensure our low carbon refurbishments and new homes are operating as designed, and are comfortable and healthy. This testing and the results, close the feedback loop and allows learning for the supply chain, the wider industry and policy makers.

Come and hear what testing has been implemented to date by a range of developers and academics; the costs, the results, the protocols, the strategies and the learning and feedback. Find out how co-heating tests are conducted, what the tests have revealed and how thermal performance problems can be avoided. Learn about the strategies, costs and findings for ongoing monitoring and post occupation evaluation.

An update on the Good Homes Alliance’s three year monitoring programme will be provided. Mobilising in October 2009, our academic partners conducted a raft of detailed fabric testing on 4 sites, 5 dwellings in 2010. The homes are now being monitored in occupation for at least 12 months.  We will provide the developer’s perspective as well as an update on the Technology Strategy Board Retrofit for the Future and Building Performance Evaluation programmes.

A number of companies involved in monitoring and testing will be displaying their products at the Exhibition. There will be plenty of opportunities to understand their products and services and meet the companies involved.

Who should attend?

Developers, contractors, housebuilders, RSLs and their client groups who want to understand the benefits and learning that monitoring can bring, together with the costs and strategies.
