The role of Passivhaus Homes in a Low Carbon Future

This event will give delegates an introduction to Passivhaus standards - explaining what they are, what they are not, and how they fit with other regulatory frameworks for both new build and refurbishment. Lead by experienced professionals, we will look at real practical examples and explore some of the challenges and opportunities for building professionals if we are to achieve the UK's 2050 target for carbon reductions in the built environment.

Delivered by the following industry experts.

  • Dr Neil Cutland,a director of Cutland Consulting Ltd and the Passivhaus Trust.  Neil has specialised in low-energy buildings for many years, and was instrumental in bringing the Passivhaus standard to the UK. 
  • Matthew Stewart, a Director of DGS Construction Ltd, which acts as Main Contractor, Project Manager and  Consultant to private clients and residential developers requiring energy efficient new build and retrofit projects. Previous projects have included the construction of highly insulated “air-tight” Super-E homes, the extensive refurbishment of a large country homes and an energy efficient barn conversion.
  • Alan Budden,is a Chartered Architect, Certified European Passivhaus Designer and Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) Assessor . He is managing director of Eco Design Consultants and sustainability tutor for post graduate students of Architecture at Birmingham University.Eco Designs consultant’s projects include a Technology Strategy Board (TSB) retrofit demonstration project that reduced the homes total CO2 output by over 80% and a new passive house for Milton Keynes Parks Trust.
