In the bid to inspire, engage and upskill the next generation of built environment professionals, the Passivhaus Trust, is partnering a 2022 national student competition led by Timber Development UK, alongside New Model Institute of Technology and Engineering (NMITE) and Edinburgh Napier University this November. Join us in-person, or online for the launch of the competition.
Following the success of the Riverside Sunderland: University Design Challenge, the competition centres around low-carbon construction, with a key focus on timber. Interdisciplinary teams of Built Environment students and 2021 graduates from UK universities will collaborate to design a community centre and ‘Skills Hub’ at Southside in Hereford. See here for more details.
To enhance climate-resilient, energy-efficient, healthy and low-carbon knowledge and skills for university students, the competition challenges teams to develop a net-zero scheme built from timber and timber hybrid systems, including:
- The consideration of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC)
- Creatively employing sustainable building materials and methods
- Designs that produce more energy than they consumes
- Design for disassembly and reuse
- Emphasise health and well-being
