Passivhaus Cohousing upon Tyne
Cohousing upon Tyne (CoHUT) in Newcastle is the latest to join a growing number of cohousing schemes adopting Passivhaus.

Passivhaus and cohousing can work well together, making low carbon living easier for residents. Designed by Newcastle-based PHT member MawsonKerr, the 25-unit Passivhaus Cohousing upon Tyne (CoHUT) project has adopted the Passivhaus standard as its target. Located on the site of a demolished school, the scheme has now received planning permission from Newcastle City Council.

The project will be an exemplar of eco-housing in the region, which we hope will inspire others. The project is aiming to meet Passivhaus Standard, the gold standard in low energy buildings, with very good insulation and ventilation systems which mean that only a tiny amount of energy is needed to heat them.
We will minimise the use of building materials that have a big impact on the environment, such as cement and steel, and use reclaimed materials where we can.
