Passivhaus & Embodied Carbon: Date for your diary
Join our webinar on 25 May 2022 to explore the relationship between Passivhaus and embodied carbon.
To address the climate emergency, we need to tackle whole life carbon, remembering that both operational (in-use) energy and embodied carbon of buildings factor into the equation.
The Passivhaus standard is brilliant at squashing operational (in-use) energy and eliminating the performance gap in buildings without compromising on comfort. However, building to Passivhaus and using low carbon/ bio-based materials are not mutually exclusive. The onus is on the design team. Passivhaus is material agnostic and can apply to any form of construction, from concrete, steel, timber, or straw.
The Passivhaus community is increasingly acknowledging and focusing on the issue of material choices and resource efficiency, demonstrated by the development of several carbon counting tools, including the embodied carbon PHribbon plug-in for PHPP.
Have a bugbear with Passivhaus? Join the Trust’s forthcoming webinar to explore the relationship between Passivhaus and embodied carbon. The session will launch the Trust's Embodied Carbon paper, followed by presentations from key experts sharing their insights on addressing embodied carbon in Passivhaus buildings. And finally, PHribbon developer Tim Martel will be sharing how the plug-in for PHPP works.
