The 2023 UK Passivhaus Award Winners are....
Thank you to over 200 attendees who joined us on the 5th of July (in London & online) for the 2023 UK Passivhaus Awards Ceremony, sponsored by Ecology Building Society, Knauf Insulation, and Munster Joinery.
The competition was fierce, with an inspiring array of exemplary projects on display. After a data driven submission process and vying for votes, we are delighted to reveal the 2023 WINNERS.
A first this year - we had a tie in the residential new build category, awarding two joint winners!
2023 WINNERS
Hackbridge Passivhaus Plus Primary"We’re delighted that Hackbridge has been recognised amongst a stellar cast of nominees - all of whom share outstanding comfort and energy performance. The awards are testament to what Passivhaus can achieve across all contexts, and promotes a high level of ambition for future design. Hackbridge Passivhaus Plus Primary School demonstrates that we already have the tools, skills and knowledge to deliver net zero operational carbon buildings - we absolutely cannot justify waiting any longer." Christian Dimbleby, Architype |

Cannock Mill Cohousing"We have a deep respect for Passivhaus Standards, so to win an award from the Passivhaus Trust for our 23 cohousing homes, is almost as good as living, with friends next door, in a house where your heating and hot water costs less than the internet!” Anne Thorne, Anne Thorne Architects LLP |

Ostro Passivhaus"We are extremely happy and proud to have won at the 2023 awards. There were so many excellent, sustainable projects shortlisted so to be recognised by the Passivhaus Trust means a great deal. We have both lived and worked from home for several years and can honestly say that the experience has surpassed our expectations. Ostro is extremely comfortable both in the depths of winter and the height of summer. ” Mhairi Grant & Martin McCrae, Paper Igloo |
||
Bowman's Lea EnerPHit"Pioneering a step-by-step EnerPHit provides a model for scalable retrofit, with benefits to staging budget & capital input, as well as being able to continue living in a property whilst works are being carried out. Engagement inspired 6 neighbours to also retrofit their homes, has influenced the wider local community and provides a valuable model for step-by-step deep retrofit." Harry Paticas, Architect & self-builder |

Erne Campus Passivhaus Premium“Generating four times more energy on-site than it uses, Erne Campus sets the bar for all public sector buildings at a time when international requirements to increase energy efficiency & reduce carbon footprint are becoming ever more stringent. All such projects, big or small, make a tangible difference to the lives of their owners, their users and their community.” Paul Millar, Hamilton Architects |

Here we feature the crowned winners – but the ‘real winner’ across the shortlist was a showcase of buildings that perform – crushing the cost of living crisis without compromising comfort, health, & wellbeing. The shortlist prove we can apply Passivhaus to any typology and open data-driven design dialogues.
FINALISTS
Once again, a huge thank you & congratulations to ALL the shortlisted project teams. It is a great bunch of people delivering inspirational buildings. From bill-busting health centres to bio-based self-builds, we highly recommend visiting the full shortlist.
It’s testament to the amazing design & imaginations of all the finalists that there was such a diversity of projects on show.
