Progress in Practice, Bailey Projects and MBC Timber Frame scooped 3 Awards for the Copper Beech Passivhaus Plus project:

  • Low Energy Project of the Year
  • Timber Frame Project of the Year
  • Winner of Winners

A selfbuild project  in Salford certified to the Passivhaus Plus standard, Copper Beech Passivhaus clients are already feeling the benefits.

The benefits of Passivhaus in terms of comfort and economy are simply gobsmacking. I felt the need to write to Octopus after several minus £2 bills to explain that these were not fraudulent but the result of superbly designed and constructed insulation. The constantly stable internal environment is just a joy to live in - a near miracle compared to the freezing, drafty winters and sweaty summers in our previous conventional build.

Progress in Practice Founder Hannah Dixon added: “Greater Manchester and many local authorities have bold net zero ambitions, but greater action is still needed on the ground. Passivhaus offers a proven route to closing the performance gap and creating zero carbon buildings."  Progress in Practice also recently won an Exemplar Sustinable Buildings Award 2025

Eclipse Leisure Centre

B&K Hybrid Solutions, Willmott Dixon, GT3 Architects, Engenuiti & Stora Enso received the following award for the Eclipse Leisure Centre project:

  • Retail & Leisure Project of the Year

Leisure centre plant rooms operate 24-hours a day, 365-days a year, powering warm, cool, wet and dry environments. The challenge was to map rigorous Passivhaus standards and low-carbon design principles onto this extremely energy-hungry typology. The project team worked closely with Gale & Snowden who acted as Passivhaus Consultants on the project.

The new centre offers a minimum saving of 50-60% in operational energy, compared to a typical leisure centre. There is a 30% improvement on total embodied carbon, based on LETI standard guidance. The project is awaiting certification from the Passivhaus Institute.
