Mayille Community Centre Wins Building Performance Award at Constructing Excellence Awards
Mayville Community Centre won the Building Performance Award at the Constructing Excellence in London & the SE Awards 2012 at a gala awards dinner in London on 27th September. Other finalists in the category were bere:architects' Camden Passivhaus, John’s Church Development Wembley (calfordseaden LLP), Hadlow College Rural Regeneration Centre (Eurobuild) and Morden Hall Park (Crofton Design).
This award recognises the fact that the community centre, retrofitted to the full Passivhaus standard (not EnerPHit) and designed to make 90% energy savings, is infact performing even better than designed. The centre is a comfortable and welcoming building for all the community to use, whilst saving financial resources for key community services.
“Since the redevelopment of the centre the aesthetics of the building have enticed new users and enquiries as to what the nature of the building is. The building has been described as a breath of fresh air to the community and the users are far happier with the comfortable temperature of the centre especially the hall.”
- Teena Phillips, Centre Manager
Earlier this year Mayville Community Centre won the UK Passivhaus Award for the Retrofit category.
