Cambridge K1 Passivhaus cohousing group seek new members
K1 are looking for potential residents to become members of the K1 cohousing opportunity in Cambridge.
Around 40 householders are coming together to shape their own Passivhaus homes and community with the support of dedicated professionals to guide them through the design and build process at K1, a self commissioning cohousing opportunity at Orchard Park, Cambridge.
K1 is a cohousing community where the concept of community is central to the design of both the site as a whole and the individual homes. It will consist of a common house where the residents can share meals, get their post, watch films, have parties or just get together and chat. Communal gardens will have space for children to run, food to be grown, games to be played, gardeners to get creative and lounging in the sun.
The group will appoint a developer to build the homes and with professional support, design the project and put it to tender. Each household will have their own house, built to the Passivhaus standard.
Being a part of the process from the start is allowing the group to influence the concept and design of the scheme. As a group they will be able to discuss and agree the sustainability and community elements, as well as the standards the scheme will aspire too.
K1 will be an ownership scheme. However the detailed arrangements are yet to be determined by the group.
