PHT plan new guidance & wiki: How to build a Passivhaus

PHT plan new publication & wiki: ‘How to build a Passivhaus.’ The guidance will address questions on how a Passivhaus is built.

The 40 page A4 publication will also be set up as an easily accessible Wiki. Diagrams will be used to illustrate principles and concepts, and drawings and photos to illustrate examples of practice.

The following chapters are proposed:

• Introduction
• Design Approaches & System Choices
• Examples of Design & Construction
  1. Walls, roofs floors (might combine with 2 and 3)
  2. Windows & doors
  3. Thermal bridges
  4. Air-tightness
  5. MVHR system (might combine with 6 or 7)
  6. Heating systems
  7. Controls
  8. Shading strategies
  9. Whole system approach
  10. Etc

• Construction & Quality Assurance
• Handover & Certification

The Chapter: Examples of Design & Construction will form the main body of the guidance, with a proposed 2 - 4 pages allocated to each of the 10 subsections; the first page would feature general guidance on the subject, the following one or two pages would give rules of thumb; what to do – what not to do, with illustrations and a short case study/example.

The Trust are seeking sponsors for the publication and wiki.

Benefits to the sponsors

The sponsors of this project will benefit in a number of ways. By taking part in the development of the publication, sponsors will input to its content through their experience and knowledge. Additionally, they have an opportunity to include information about one (or possibly more) of their projects in the examples used to demonstrate each point.

By supporting this publication and wiki, sponsors will be associated with the expertise presented within it, and their brand will be promoted in a positive light. The link will be visible through a mention in the acknowledgements section, detailing the type of support provided by each sponsor:

• Sponsor of a subsection of chapter 3 in the publication and a section of the wiki: The sponsors’ logo will be presented on each subsection – “sponsored by”. Each subsection will have one particular sponsor.

• Sponsor of the publication: The sponsors’ logo will be presented on the front / back cover, alongside the Passivhaus Trust logo. The publication can have several sponsors.

• The sponsor of the wiki for this year: The sponsors’ logo will be presented on the home page with a hyperlink to the sponsors’ webpage, alongside the Passivhaus Trust logo. The wiki can have several sponsors
