In partnership with the Passivhaus Trust, The Architects’ Journal, BRE, Kingspan Insulation, Viessmann and The Habitat First Group, the 2014 design competition challenged architects to design a family home to passivhaus standards for a waterside site owned by The Habitat First Group.

The panel of Judges included PHT board member Lynne Sullivan. Chaired by Professor Robert Adam, Director ADAM Architecture, the panel have selected eight designs revealing PHT members NPS Leeds, Jon Broome Architects and Jim Miller Designs as finalists:

  • Naust (Haus): Artform Architects
  • Wasserhaus: Brightspace Architects
  • Sundrop: Fluid Design

  • Passivpod: Koru Architects & Jim Miller Designs
  • The Boardwalk House: NPS Leeds

It is planned that the winning design, as chosen by the readers of the Sunday Times and announced at the presentation of the British Homes Awards in London on September 19, will be built by the Habitat First group at one of their sites located in Southern England.

The short-list will be published in Sunday Times Home on June 22nd. From June 23rd a presentation of all the concepts, which demonstrate that passivhaus house design can be both contemporary and innovative, will be staged as a gallery display at The Building Centre, Store Street, London

As a showcase for leading edge passivhaus design, energy efficient systems and materials a significant legacy can be anticipated for the winning design.
