Passivhaus Student Competition

Launched on the 16th October 2014 at the UK Passivhaus Conference, the Trust are involved in a pilot Passivhaus student competition titled: Developing a Passivhaus Masterplan for a UK town centre.

The main purpose of this competition is to give architecture and planning students a creative vehicle to learn about transforming an existing town centre and its buildings into a low energy sustainable place, using the Passivhaus standard and principles.

Undergraduate students from the following Universities are eligible to participate:

  • University of Hertfordshire
  • The University of Nottingham
  • University of the West of England

Within this masterplan the competitors will be asked to pick one retrofit or new build project and provide detailed design to turn this into a certifiable Passivhaus building.

The intention is that the competition will form part of the students’ ongoing course work, with an aim to find a real building/ site that students could use for the design exercise; If possible the locations would have similar small, post-war,concrete urban centre characteristics, such a Stevenage.

Cross disciplinary working between planning, building services, engineering and architecture students is encouraged. Entries will be judged locally and nationally by leading Passivhaus representatives in the UK next year in June 2015. The shortlisted entries will be exhibit at the next UK Passivhaus Conference.

If you teach an undergraduate module snd would like to register interest in the competition please email info@passivhaustrust.org.uk
