Made In Place's EnerPHit project progressing well

Work is well underway at Made In Place's EnerPHit renovation project of a 1970's home. When construction began last year, it was found that parts of the existing building were in a poor state of health, so a number of essential repairs have been undertaken to improve it to the required standard.

High performance triple-glazed windows have been installed, but certain elements such as the main doors to the house and garage will not be installed until later on in the build. This eliminates the potential for damage and means their integrity will not be compromised during the construction process.

The project team have encountered a number of problems throughout the process, such as asbestos and a poor standard of brickwork due to the exposed nature of the building. The roof parapet walls were in particular poor condition and have now been carefully repaired by experienced contractors. Although it has been expensive to deal with, it was imperative that the asbestos was removed safely and the building fabric sufficiently repaired in order to prepare the building for the installation of the internal and external insulation layers.

The design team are busy working on the Passivhaus design details, following the completion of the thermal bridge analysis and MVHR duct route design. The insulation strategy has been finalised and will be implemented once the windows on the front elevation of the building have been installed.
