Ecobuild 2012 roundup
We had a great time at Ecobuild, running over 15 seminars and promoting Passivhaus to over 2000 people.
The Passivhaus presence was much bigger this year with an entire seminar stream dedicated to Passivhaus taking place over all the 3 days. Most seminar rooms were well attended and some had delegates queuing up to get in, indicating a phenomenal interest in Passivhaus. Jon Bootland, Melissa Taylor, Chris Herring and Nick Grant presented at various seminars as well.
Prof Wolfgang Feist gave a talk on the lessons to be learnt from Passivhaus adoption in Germany and developing a market for Passivhaus in the UK. Along with Dr Witta Ebel, he succinctly outlined why the UK is ideal for the application of the Passivhaus standard based on the PHI’s research and evidence from performance data from current UK Passivhuas projects.
Nick Grant was among the judges of the Isover Architectural Student Design Competition.This year’s competition challenged students to create a sustainable community living plan for around 12 to 15 families, located in Nottingham’s Trent Basin at the border between the city and the industrial zone. The development had to be designed in accordance with Saint-Gobain Isover Multi-Comfort principles, encompassing Passivhaus components. All of the shortlisted finalists and their designs can be viewed on the Saint-Gobain Isover competition website.
At our stand we were constantly overwhelmed with visitors also queuing up to talk to us and our member volunteers. Thanks to all the volunteers who took time out to help out on the stand, we hope it was an enjoyable experience!
