Seymour-Smith Architects awarded Honourable mention at Bulgarian Passive House design competition
Seymour-Smith Architects have been awarded an Honourable mention at the Passive House design competition in Bulgaria. The team of Hristo Stankushev, Svetoslav Michev and Rumen Yordanov from Bulgaria were announced the winners.
The Passive House Design Competition organised by Passive House Bulgaria set out to challenge the global architectural community to develop affordable, low energy, single-family houses, to draw public attention to this new type of energy efficient building, and promote the design and construction of Passivhaus in Bulgaria. This was the first electronic competition of its kind in Bulgaria. Registrations for participation in the contest were received from architects and students from Bulgaria, Europe, Asia, North America, and Australia.
General comments from the judges for all project entries: 'The entries in general show a high level of design creativity with a combination of both beauty and energy efficiency that is very exciting and promising. Many of the projects are very promising in regards to energy efficiency, but the designers appear to not have an understanding of energy balancing. With several projects, a few small changes, with little design impact, would have significantly improved the project’s energy efficiency.'
