About
2015 is a special year for the Trust as it is our 5th anniversary, which will coincide with the UK Passivhaus Awards ceremony. The 2015 Awards aimed to celebrate the design and performance of Passivhaus in the UK, highlighting that Passivhaus can be used on any building type to create beautiful buildings that address health and well-being, energy efficiency and occupant comfort issues.
2015 objectives
- Celebrate exceptional Passivhaus buildings that are beautifully designed.
- Recognise UK Passivhaus schemes that are being delivered at large scale.
- Demonstrate that Passivhaus can deliver successful retrofit solutions.
Shortlisted Finalists and Winners
Small Projects Category: sponsored by Kingspan Insulation
Dundon Passivhaus Private dwelling Compton Dundon, Somerset A detached low-energy home built to Passivhaus Standard, nestled at the foot of a wooded hill on the edge of a Somerset Village. |
WINNER: Steel Farm Private dwelling Whitfield, Northumberland A reinterpretation of the traditional farmstead. Materials, form and proportion are in harmony with the region; culminating in a vibrant home with a distinct sense of place. |
Large Projects Category: Sponsored by Munster Joinery
Social housing EnerPHit Manchester, Greater Manchester A regeneration of two dilapidated blocks of flats in one of the poorest parts of Manchester, with EnerPHit as a mechanism for creating a sustainable low carbon community. |
STEM Building University Lab Bradford, West Yorkshire A new build multi-use lab space with associated prep rooms. Buildings main aim is to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics at the University. |
WINNER: Wilkinson Primary School Primary School Wolverhampton, West Midlands A 2nd generation Passivhaus Primary that takes the brief beyond necessary requirements. The design addresses future needs of a 21st century learning environment with various innovations to improve performance & sustainability. |
Retrofit Category: Sponsored by Ecology Building Society
Office Plymouth, Devon Conversion of a first floor flat into an EnerPHit office, and extensive retrofit of the whole building, which includes a ground floor shop. |
WINNER: Cre8 Barn Education Centre Huddersfield, Yorkshire Retrofit with a super-insulated timber frame structure built inside the existing building to preserve the appearance of the cow byre. |
11/19 Passmore Street Private rentals Mayfair, London Two bed, historic terraced houses that acheived first privately rented EnerPHit criteria in London. Pilot projects have set precedence for many more to come from Grosvenor. |

Winners were decided by PHT members.

- online PHT member votes (open 22 June)
- votes from the members of the audience at the Awards Ceremony after project presentations.
