Parliament Hill School awaits planning approval for Passivhaus development
The London Borough of Camden homes a number of Passivhaus residential developments, such as large scale Chester Balmore (awaiting certification), and Agar Grove (under construction), plus pioneering Camden Passivhaus. Plans to develop an existing seconday school to meet the Passivhaus Standard have been submit for planning approval with a decision due in March 2015.

Parliament Hill Secondary School provides education for girls and is located adjacent to Hampstead Heath. The large 6,000m2 extension to the school (the Ribbon Building) occupies 630 students. There are a number of buildings being redeveloped on the site. The Ribbon Building extension is the only part of the development that aims to achieve the Passivhaus Standard. Proposals for the redevelopment of the School were submitted for planning in December 2014; The consultation period is due to end mid February with a decion expected by the end of March 2015.

The new extension will be built with concrete frame super structure and timber frame walls, hoping to achieve the following U-values:
- Wall - 0.18
- Roof - 0.12
- Floor - 0.14
A deep façade will be utilised to create overhangs along with additional vertical shading elements and internal blinds for a successful shading strategy. The development also aims to acheive BREEAM excellent standard.
If planning approval is granted, construction is due to start in spring 2015, with an expected completion date in 2017.
