Passivhaus Client Club series: a collaborative year for social housing

The Passivhaus Client Clubs 2025 have wrapped, here we celebrate our collective journey toward low-carbon, high-quality social housing.  Throughout the series, local authorities, housing associations and social landlords from across the country came together to tackle shared challenges, strengthen internal capacity and accelerate the delivery of affordable Passivhaus homes.

Across a variety of online and in person sessions, the Passivhaus Client Clubs created a space for open dialogue, expert guidance and practical learning - helping participants build confidence and momentum in their Passivhaus ambitions.

The value delivered

The interactive online sessions gave attendees the opportunity to discuss the real-world obstacles they face, from internal pushback to cost concerns and learn from peers who have successfully navigated similar issues.  The series explored how to secure organisational buy-in, gather the right evidence and articulate the business case for Passivhaus at a time when climate resilience, energy efficiency and tenant well-being are more important than ever.

In support of the online sessions, we offered a number of UK wide Client Club site visits.  From Welshpool to York, social housing providers were able to get up close and personal to a range of social housing projects.  Attendees also enjoyed valuable networking and connections opportunities - learning directly from each other and deliver more streamlined, successful projects.

Key benefits for participants

Throughout the sessions, experienced Passivhaus speakers showcased practical insights drawn from their Passivhaus projects, providing tailored advice and responces to participant questions.  Attendees valued the frank discussions about what works and what to avoid with participants appreciating the importance of having direct access to experts who could offer clear, evidence-based guidance tailored to live projects.

One of the standout features of this year’s programme was the level of continued support offered. Discussions extended beyond the sessions, with many participants using the insights to refine internal strategies, improve design approaches and unlock organisational commitment.

A recurring theme across the clubs was the drive to deliver climate-resilient, financially sustainable homes. Attendees explored design optimisation strategies, approaches to reducing operational energy use and methods for addressing fuel poverty, all of which reinforce the wider social and economic value of Passivhaus standards.

What our attendees found useful

The combination of expert input and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing proved particularly powerful in helping organisations move from intention to delivery.  WIth over 90% of our attendees scored the series 4 stars or above, participants across the full series reported gaining:

  • Actionable takeaways to support ongoing project development

  • Tools to address internal resistance and organisational uncertainty

  • Regionally tailored insights through topic-specific breakout rooms

  • A network of peers facing similar challenges and opportunities

  • Valuable site experience of Passivhaus projects
